Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique for Receding Gums in Jacksonville

Dr. Perlman uses the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique as a fast, easy and comfortable procedure to reverse gum recession.
Breakthrough, Minimally Invasive Technique to Treat Receding Gums
Healthy gums are essential for a healthy mouth, so it is important to take gum recession seriously. Gum recession not only leaves the root structure of the tooth exposed, but it also leaves the structures of your mouth vulnerable to bacterial infection and disease. Treatment for severe gum recession usually requires taking healthy tissue and grafting it to the area in need of restoration.
In some circumstances, Dr. Perlman is able to provide his patients an alternative to traditional grafting treatment with the innovative Chao Pinhole Surgery Technique (PST). With this minimally invasive option, receding gums can be repaired without performing traditional surgery. Dr. Perlman was one of the first periodontists in the United States to be trained in this breakthrough treatment and is currently among only a handful of doctors in the United States offering this procedure.

No Cutting, No Sutures, Faster Recovery Time
With the new Pinhole Surgical Technique, Dr. Perlman can treat up to 14 teeth at one time. Treatment is done using local anesthetic, and treatment time is only one to two hours. Since there is no cutting, grafting or suturing involved, recovery time is greatly reduced.
The Pinhole gum recession procedure has been tested over a period of several years with uniformly good and lasting results.
The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique Procedure
Traditional gum grafting requires cutting healthy tissue from a donor site and opening up the graft site on the gumline. That’s two areas of the mouth that need to be sutured and allowed to heal.
The Pinhole Surgical Technique avoids all that with a procedure that does not require scalpels and sutures. Dr. John Chao developed this revolutionary technique, along with the specialized dental instruments, as a minimally invasive alternative to gum grafting procedures.
Before starting the PST treatment, the affected teeth are cleaned and prepared. The gum is then numbed with a local anesthetic. Dr. Perlman makes a small entry point (about a tenth of an inch) with a needle. Through the pinhole, the specialized dental instruments are used to gently loosen the gum tissue. These tools help expand and slide the gumline to cover the exposed root structure. The doctor then inserts collagen strips to help hold the gums in place and promote healing.
The Benefits of Pinhole Surgical Technique

- Quicker recovery times than with traditional grafting
